Generative AI is more than just ChatGPT. As library professionals, we need basic literacy about this category of technology and how to use these tools effectively and ethically in library educational programs.

By the way, have you followed this past weekend’s news about the company behind ChatGPT?
If you heard the latest news about OpenAI, you’ll know that their board pushed out their CEO, Sam Altman on Friday. And today he’s announced that he’ll be leading an AI team at Microsoft. (All the drama reminds of me various Netflix dramatizations of big tech shakeups).
For one of the best summaries I’ve seen, take a look at Not much is changing, a lot is changing by Ethan Mollick. Another newsletter I follow mentions that “Open-source will surely benefit from this. Open-source is resilient to corporate capture and boardroom coups.”
And if you want more interesting details, watch this 17 minute video: The Weekend That Changed AI on one of my favorite YouTube channels, AI Explained.
